What is HD-CVI?
HD-CVI stands for High Definition Composite Video Interface. This is a brand new technology in the security camera industry that provides a different method of transmitting video signals over coaxial cables. Enter HD-CVI, a true alternative to Network IP solutions. HD-CVI uses a licensed video transmitter and receiver that is able to transmit up to 1080p video resolution (1920 x 1080) in an uncompressed format over the same standard coaxial cable that is used for standard CCTV cameras. This uncompressed video format is able to transmit over 200m.
What are the advantages of HD-CVI?
The easiest way to upgrade your old CCTV system is by using Dahua`s HD-CVI equipment due to the fact that all you need to do is buy new cameras and DVR while using the wiring you already have will save you money.
What do you need for your HD-CVI CCTV system?
First of all cameras. You should choose between 1, 2, 4 or more megapixels. While thinking about that you should decide what IR (night mode) rage you cameras must have.
The second thing is the recorder. Please pay attention when choosing one, that the DVR should correspond to your camera`s resolution. In other words if your cameras are 2MP then the DVR should be capable to record them at that resolution. Your DVR needs hard drive in order to store the records. The capacity of the HDD defines for how long you can keep archive of the records. For example 1TB used in system with 4 cameras is enough for about 5-8 days of recording.
Then you have to think about the cabling. Generally you can use either UTP or RG59 coax. If you use UTP you`ll need video baluns. If the cable is RG59 then the connectors you`ll need are BNC. Don`t forget about the power connectors as well.
At the end you have to select power source for your cameras. The number of the cameras and their IR range, generally speaking, are the things that will help selecting power supply. For example you can use 12V, 3A power adapter for 4 cameras with IR up to 20-30m
