What is 960H? What are the benefits?
First, in order to give an idea what 960H means we have to give a definition to it.
Definition of 960H resolution
960H is a new standard for security cameras and security DVR's that provides high resolution images using advanced image sensors. Security cameras capable of 960H produce an image that is 960 horizontal and 480 vertical pixels large (960x480).
The new 960H standart has a lot of benefits.
First of all is the higher resolution. Cameras and DVR's capable of recording at this resolution provide superior images that are 34% larger than D1. Copared to CIF 960H provides 500% larger resolution.
Recording in higher resolution means having larger images. When your security system is capable of rocording larger images that means a greater amount of image detail. Images are sharper and it is easier to distinguish objects that are close together.
We must mention that cameras and DVR`s capable of recording at 960H resolution provide a a wide-screen picture that does not need to be stretched to fit wide-screen TV's and monitors. To be exact the 960H resolution gives you an image at the ratio of 16:9.
At last, but least upgrading to 960H is easy, and cost efficient. If you have decided to upgrade your old CCTV security system uo to the 960H standart you can use the same BNC video cabling as lower resolution systems. That`s why we may say it is cost efficient, because it is chaper than upgrading to IP video surveillance system.
All you need to take advantage of the 960H security system are CCTV cameras that are capable of producing images at 960H and, of course a security DVR capable of recording at 960H resolution.
If you have security system and you`d like to make partial upgrade, for exaple upgrading 2 of 4 cameras you must have in mind that 960H security cameras and DVR's are backwards compatible with standard resolution cameras and DVR's. However, both your security cameras and DVR must be 960H capable to get the improved picture quality and performance. 960H cameras will provide a good picture on a standard resolution DVR, but they will perform even better with a system that can support the full image size.
